W-tapping or Blockhitting?

In what situation is w-tapping better than blockhitting?

I know that when you block hit, you move forward more frequently and for a sprint reset for a shorter period of time.
As a result, you take less kb (compared to other sprint reset methods) while possibly reducing the damage you take.

I usually w-tap, but I get destroyed by block-hit spammers. Not sure if I'm timing it correctly though.
If I'm defensively w-tapping against a defensive block hitter, the effects would nullify...
