option to easily identify "most popular threads" of the week/month?

i did find an add on that seems to provide this, but i dont actually want to add the widget to the page for everyone etc vs just finding a way to easily identify the most popular thread of the last week or month? (suppose it could either be based on reply count, or number of likes)

is there a silly easy way to accomplish this that im missing? id simply like to include the "most popular thread of the week/month" in a newsletter to subscribers etc.
