Hot take: Whenever you pick up a fairy soul, you are really picking up pieces of your own soul. You give your soul to Tia the Fairy when you return "fairy souls".

Tia the Fairy took your soul.

Tia the Fairy is actually a dark magician who casts spells on you to make you stronger and takes back your soul when you find pieces of it.
