ASTM A356 aluminum alloy is a common aluminum casting material. CFS Foundry has extensive experience in pouring industrial A356 aluminum alloy castings. Compared to cast stainless steel alloys, A356 aluminum alloys are extremely corrosion resistant yet lightweight.
We are able to cast A356 aluminum alloys from small to large volumes, weighing between 0.2 kg to 10 kg. A356 cast aluminum parts from our foundry are used in a wide range of industries including automotive, food dairy, marine, medical, impellers, casings, pump components, tools, frames, mounts, mining, petrochemical, electrical, energy, aerospace and more .

What is A356 aluminum alloy casting?
A356 is an aluminum alloy for casting. It consists of 92.05% Aluminum, 7% Silicon, 0.2% Iron, 0.2% Copper, 0.35% Magnesium, 0.1% Zinc and 0.1% Manganese. This alloy is usually heat treated after aluminum casting to improve its strength properties.

Gravity casting is the correct casting method for casting A356 aluminum alloy. The A356 aluminum casting process includes: Designing and manufacturing a mold with a cavity that is the same shape as the desired part. Then, the A356 aluminum ingot is melted at high temperature in an oven. The molten metal is introduced into the mold by gravity. After solidification, the A356 casting is removed from the mold, which can be used multiple times to produce the same part with a good surface finish.

Using the gravity casting process, the production speed of A356 aluminum castings is good. Reusable mold tooling allows hundreds of A356 castings to be produced in a single day. High-definition parts reduce tooling costs, and superior surface finish reduces finishing costs. Further advantages of A356 aluminum castings include:

Tight tolerances allow for finished parts with outstanding precision
Smooth surface of A356 aluminum casting
Excellent mechanical properties including tensile strength
Insertable core parts can be preformed and used to create reverse draft pockets
The part can be made with internal inserts and steel pins
