Why? Nobody ever (maybe less than 0.1%) particularly hacks into your account to get your accounts wealth.
Your account data gets "cracked" by someone. How? They try like 100k different email: pw "combos".
Not your email with different pws. They try 100k different emails with different passwords.
How do they get these lists? By taking advantage of unsecured sqli-data on websites (or other data storages without protection). Thousands of websites.
They then get a few mc accounts to work with...
