Are these scam "reasons" actually legit?

So there have been auction house scams going around where the scammer will convince a victim to list an item at below market value. They will then warp them into a portal trap and snipe the item for themselves.

There are two main excuses to convince the victim to list at a low price. Obviously the scammer is just saying these things to take advantage of the victim, but I was wondering if any partial truths back up the reasonings, or if they are just 100% made up.
